VI. READING COMPREHENSION: Read the passage and blacken the best answer.

LOUIS BRAILLE Louise Braille was born in the French town of Coupvray, near Paris on January the 4th, 1809. he was blind at the age of 4, because of an instrument which was used to punch holes in leather in his father’s workshop. Louis was a very bright boy, he went to a normal school, studying with kids who weren’t blind. At the age of 10, he went to the Royal Institution for Blind Youth in Paris. Louise began getting the ideal for the Braille alphabet from a French army captain. And then his invention was used by the blind. All the blind could learn the spelling, even music with the Braille Alphabet. In 1829 he published a book, named “Method of Writing Words, Music and Plain Song by Means of Dots for Use by the Blind and Arranged by Them”. Before his death on January 6th, 1852, his system never really got accepted. But next years, the popularity of the Braille system increased dramatically. People realized the simple but powerful system was the perfect means for blind to read. Today the Braille Alphabet system is standard reading system blind children learn. People using the Braille system read almost as fast as you are doing right now.
